EMPLOYMENT RECORD

Present position: Emeritus Professor of Economics, University of Indonesia, Jakarta since 1994, and lecturer at the same University since 1978. Currently, Senior Fellow, Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (IDSS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

Before coming to IDSS he was Visiting Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), Singapore, January 2001- August 2002. He completed a manuscript, an English version of his book previously published in Bahasa Indonesia in October 2001 (‘Managing Bank Indonesia During the Crisis’). Previously he worked as a Development Associates, the Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID) and Visiting Scholar, OPO-John-F.Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, with a grant from the Ford Foundation, September 1998-December 2000.

He had a long career working for the government of Indonesia in different capacities that included;
Governor of Bank Indonesia, the central bank of Indonesia, 1993-1998. Former President Soeharto dismissed him summarily a little over two months before completing his term.
